When Dunans Castle Ltd. purchased the c. 250 acres of hillside above Dunans Castle, there were some 40 acres of mixed commercial / native woodland, of which half required to be harvested and replanted. The rest of the ground was historically used as grazing for sheep.
In 2024 the harvested commercial coups will be replanted with Oak and Silver Birch alongside new planting on the hillside, which will become a new Upland Birch Woodland of some 200 acres. It is this latter new area which will capture the carbon for our offset scheme.
