In today’s rapidly changing world, businesses face increasing pressure to demonstrate environmental responsibility. Imagine aligning your company’s vision with a commitment to sustainability that not only offsets your carbon footprint but also builds a legacy of environmental, cultural and heritage stewardship on the West Coast of Scotland.
The Carbon Offset
The Dunans Castle Woodland project will absorb over 25,000 tonnes of carbon over the next 100 years by planting more than 60 hectares of new temperate rainforest.
The Environmental Benefit
Not only will our project encourage a rare and important type of woodland, it will link with the West Cowal Temperate Rainforest network and become part of a wider effort to multiply the benefit of native forest types being planted or conserved in the area. We will also be planting 10 hectares of Oak and Birch woodland to replace commercial sitka stand to recover more of this important environment.
The Cultural Benefit
Dunans Wood will be a public amenity space. Once the new and replanted areas are established, the whole forest, some 100 hectares, will be opened to the public as an amenity space linked into the Loch Lomond & Cowal Way, (a 57-mile Long Distance Route, as well as providing in itself a network of woodland paths and spaces for residents, visitors and holidaymakers to enjoy. This amenity woodland will link with Community Forests at Stronafian, on Bute and above Tighnabruaich to consolidate our position as an arboreal visitor attraction and centre for woodland education.
The Heritage Benefit
The monies generated from the Carbon Offset project will help fund the restoration of B-listed Dunans Castle and A-listed Thomas-Telford-designed Dunans Bridge. Over the last decade Dunans Castle Limited has been working to restore this important example of Scottish built heritage into a public building and visitor attraction. With a community of interested members numbering c. 400,000, the project is ready to take the next major steps, enabled by this woodland creation scheme. Once complete the castle and bridge will complement the new woodlands, and create both venue and access into our temperate rainforest.
We invite you to partner with our innovative carbon offset scheme, designed specifically for forward-thinking enterprises like yours.
